Symposium etiquette

Symposium day is an opportunity to share what you have learned in research with peers, faculty, community members, and family. Participants are encouraged to:

  • Wear professional/business attire.
  • Check in early. Registration is between 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. in Mary Gates Hall Commons for all presenters
  • Oral, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts & Design presenters arrive early to your session. Presenters are asked to be in their session room at least fifteen minutes prior to the beginning of the session. Presenters using PPT files should have their presentation files on a USB flash drive and backed up in the cloud.
  • Remain for the entirety of your session. For oral and performing arts, you are expected to stay for the full session that you present in out of respect to your fellow presenters.
  • Attending Oral Sessions: wait until students are finished delivering presentations (or are in between presentations) before entering a session room.
  • Visit the location of your session prior to the Symposium, in order to get a feel for the building and, if applicable, the session room in which you are presenting.
  • Email urp@uw.edu with any questions about Symposium etiquette.
  • If you have signed up to present but are no longer able to, make sure to let the URP know as soon as possible.
  • Be prepared prior to Symposium! Read all instructions sent via email and additional presenter information on our website:
