Award Information

Applications for Undergraduate Research Conference Travel Awards are accepted on a rolling basis and are reviewed monthly.

The travel award is for partial support to present your research at a professional conference*. The amount of the award is based on expenses incurred. Airfare and conference registration fees may be covered in their entirety; other expenses may be partially covered. Each award amount will be determined based on the expense summary you submit with your application.

Applicants must be currently enrolled UW undergraduates working with a UW faculty mentor. Students must be accepted to present a paper, poster, or creative scholarly work at a professional conference, event, or meeting.

Application Process

Applications are accepted on a continuing basis and are reviewed monthly. Funds are limited, and it is encouraged that you submit your application as soon as you are accepted to present your research. Priority deadline for submitted applications, including a letter of recommendation from a faculty mentor, is four weeks prior to your departure date. Applications must be completed prior to the first day of your conference to be considered for funding.

Selection Criteria

Selection criteria for these awards include: overall quality of the application and the importance of participation in the conference/venue to the applicant’s long-term goals as articulated in the applicant’s statement. Note: Priority for funding will be given to first-time applicants.

Awardees are expected to submit a brief summary statement about their conference experience and to present their research at the UW Undergraduate Research Symposium.

*Due to limits in funding, we do not typically fund travel outside North America. Contact urp@uw.edu before applying if you have questions about your conference.
