Conference Reflections

Going to the conference helped me present my work so that other people could understand it. I also had practice public speaking and got the opportunity to network. I also got a lot of positive feedback from my audience, who were impressed with the work I had done!

Prior to the conference I was set on the idea that I would not be getting my PhD. After talking to the many people I met and seeing people in those positions that looked like me I decided that I will be getting my PhD. I thought that I wasn’t good enough but going to this conference helped me open my eyes to the fact that I am!

Inclusive Research Communication

Broaden your audience by communicating your research in a variety of ways.

Examples include:

  • Seminars/workshops
  • Social media
  • Podcasts
  • Videos/pictures
  • Flyers
  • Issue/policy brief
  • News media

Using diverse methods of research communication helps research become more inclusive and accessible to those outside of the research institution/field. This is especially important for those engaged in community-based research and any research that may impact specific populations. Consider consolidating your research into one of the forms above and practice communicating your research to those outside of your field!

Publishing

Research results contribute to knowledge in a field when they are shared with other practitioners in the discipline.

If you’ve made a significant contribution to an area of research, you may wish to collaborate on a peer-reviewed publication for a professional journal. Also, be sure to talk to your mentor or a faculty member in your department if you have questions about getting published.

If you have had your work published or showcased in any venue, we would love to hear about it. Let us know at undergradresearch@uw.edu.
