Undergraduate Research Program

Howard Hughes Medical Institute EXROP

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Exceptional Research Opportunities Program (EXROP) provided talented undergraduates with outstanding summer research experiences that encourage them to pursue careers in academic science. The students were selected to apply by HHMI professors and invited directors of HHMI-funded undergraduate programs at colleges and universities. EXROP students also attended meetings at HHMI headquarters where they present their research in a poster session, network with their peers and HHMI scientists, and hear from scientific researchers from various backgrounds and stages in their careers.

HHMI EXROP was co-hosted with URP starting in 2011. Co-hosted programs originate from local and national organizations seeking to provide transformative research experiences for undergraduates. URP helps manage the operations – including logistics, comprehensive student advising and support – to ensure that students have a successful summer research experience at the UW.
