Three events, one new tradition. Attend the official University Welcome (Convocation) with your family and new friends, connect with new first-year students or peers in your First-year Interest Group (FIG), and take your class W Photos as one husky family.
We will take the "W" Photo rain or shine!
New Student Convocation: You are invited to attend our welcome ceremony for all new student and their families. You will need a free ticket to attend the Convocation, and you must register.
Select the agenda based on your enrollment in a FIG or E-FIG (General Studies 199).
Prepare for Husky Kickoff
Please complete the following tasks to prepare:
- Eat before you arrive. If you need assistance with food, please visit the UW Food Pantry.
- Avoid Bags. You will be moving between locations (accessible routes available).
- Dress for the weather. Events will happen, rain or shine.
- Arrive on time. Give yourself time to get where you need to meet (see locations below).
- (For students registered for a FIG): Know your group information: Go to MyUW to find your General Studies 199: FIG section letter and number (general studies class section).

Meet at the IMA Fields to connect with your First-year Interest Group (FIG) Leader and classmates to create a community in small groups. When you arrive at the IMA Fields you must know your FIG Section, which is the section of the course GEN ST 199 (ex. GEN ST 199 H5).

All new Huskies (freshman and transfer) are invited to continue to the Husky Stadium field for the annual Husky Kickoff tradition. Continue your connection with first-year students, learn about Husky traditions, and take your class “W” photo on the Husky Stadium Field.
If you want to view the activities from a low sensory area, please enter the stadium from the southeast entrance and sit in the outdoor stands.
This event is open to new students (freshman and transfer students) only to ensure we can meet capacity. UW family members are encouraged to attend the New Studnet Convocation.
