Training for Title IX personnel

Onboarding for new staff includes a thorough review of UW policies and procedures, a review of relevant documents and files, ongoing consultation with supervisors and colleagues, and training on technology and record-keeping systems. Personnel also regularly attend webinars and conferences relevant to their specific role and experience.

The 2020 Title IX regulations 34 C.F.R. § 106.45(b)(10)(i)(D) requires universities to post the most recent training materials for Title IX coordinators, Title IX decision-makers, Title IX investigators, and all who implement informal resolution processes.

As appropriate for their role, the following materials were used to train Title IX Personnel.

The University of Washington is a member of the SUNY Student Conduct Institute (SCI) which provides the appropriate training materials to meet the necessary criteria as outlined by the 2020 Final Title IX Regulations including training that does not rely on sex stereotypes and promote impartial investigations and adjudications. University of Washington-specific training materials and other recent training materials are available in this folder. These materials are in addition to those available through the SUNY Student Conduct Institute.

Self-guided training for hearing and review officers (decision makers) in student conduct proceedings. Content includes general information about the 2020 Department of Education federal regulations as well as how to avoid bias, conflicts of interest, and prejudgment of facts, evaluate evidence, assess credibility, and conduct hearings or appeals.
