Communications and IT

Join us to discuss hurdles in IT that could be solved with more effective communications. Chat and share how we can effectively present and “package” information and how we can better coordinate, break down silos and be more efficient in amplifying shared messaging. Learn what we risk if we fail to effectively communicate our shared responsibilities when it comes to cybersecurity and influencing security best practices. And brainstorm ways we can make changes less disruptive to individuals when we communicate a plan and send messages meant to support and reassure changes in behavior rather than raise alarm or resistance.

Networking can help you:

  • Discover work efforts happening across campus
  • Increase visibility and awareness for you and your department
  • Learn about new tools or disciplines
  • Interact with some of the best and brightest talent

Here are some great ways to make the most out of the networking event:

Networking tips

Have a few conversation starters ready

Interacting with people can seem overwhelming. Be prepared with a few questions like:

  • What did you think of the keynote speaker?
  • Which session provided the most value for you?
  • How did you get started in your career?

Listen intently to the answers and you are sure to learn something at this event.

Prepare an elevator pitch ahead of time

Be ready for the question, what do you do? A witty response that summarizes the value you add to the organization can make a lasting impression and help create relationships that will be valuable to both you and your colleague in the future.

Research the Communities of Practice

Learn which communities exist and see which topics you are most drawn to. You don’t have to join a community to seek out answers to questions or learn tools and resources that could help you in your own career or your work responsibilities.
