Information for departments

Informing your TAs about the TA Conference

CTL uses the Graduate School’s GPA list to send all departments information about the conference. Once registration is open, we will send an update and include an invitation for departments to forward to their new TAs.

Registration for the conference will open in early July. We use online registration software and a conference app.

Please note:

  • There will be one registration period, open throughout the conference.
  • Once a workshop is filled, it’s filled: we are unable to add new sessions.
  • Please encourage your students to register early to get into their first choice of workshops.

Department workshop recommendations

Many departments recommend specific workshops for their TAs to attend. If you would like to recommend workshops, please do so in the email you send along with the conference invitation.  For more information about which workshops will be offered and at what times they will be offered, please see our workshop descriptions and conference schedule pages.

Student participation

CTL does not take attendance at the TA Conference and we will not be able to tell you if your students participated in workshops.

At your request, we can provide a list of students in your department who registered for the conference.  Please note:  Registration will be open from late June to September 18 and students may modify their registration at any time.

GRDSCH 501: TA Preparation

CTL encourages graduate students to take the conference for academic credit.
To do so, students must:

  1. Register for GRDSCH 501 using MyPlan (please see the autumn quarter UW Time Schedule for details)
  2. Register for the TA Conference using the conference registration site

GRDSCH 501 students will be required to:

  • Attend a minimum of three sessions at the conference
  • Complete five interactive online assignments during autumn quarter through the course Canvas website.

Please let students know your department’s recommendations regarding registering for GRDSCH 501.
