Transportation to the UW Rome Center

Train

  • The regional train from Fiumicino airport to Stazione Trastevere (7 stops) runs from 5:57 am to 11:27 pm daily, leaving every 15 to 20 minutes and costs €8. You can purchase a ticket in advance at Trenitalia.com or buy one directly at the station adjacent to the airport. (This is NOT the Leonardo Express, which goes directly to Termini station.) From the Trastevere train station, purchase a bus ticket at the newsstand for €1.50 and take the #8 bus in the direction of Venezia to the city center.

Shuttle Bus

  • This is the least expensive option from Fiumicino, Rome’s international airport, or Ciampino, a smaller airport for some European connections. Buses run about every 30 minutes and trips take between 45 minutes to 1 hour. Tickets can be purchased online at Sit Bus Shuttle (tickets purchased online cost €6 one way per person; be sure to print the e-ticket and keep it with you) or on board of the bus. The bus stop at Fiumicino Airport is located near Terminal 3, bus stop no. 1 (take right when you go out from the terminal). In Ciampino Airport, the bus stop is located near the exit from the terminal. Once at Termini, purchase a bus ticket on the mycicero app or at the newsstand outside of the station for €1.50 and take the #64 bus for €1.50 to the city center.

Taxi

  • You can catch a taxi directly at the airport, but be sure to take an official taxi from the taxi stand and confirm with the driver that the fixed fare will be €50. Surcharges for bags and early/late hours may apply.

Restaurants

Campo de’ Fiori

• Verso Sera (Piazza del Biscione): Great food. The artichokes, cicoria, parmigiana and taralli are a must.
• Emma (Via del Monte della Farina, 28): Fantastic parmigiana, artichoke salad, greens of all sorts. Pizza crust is by the famous Roscioli bakery.
• Ditirambo (Piazza della Cancelleria, 74): Roman food, but better. Amazing eggplant polpetti, cicoria, etc.
• Hosteria Grappolo d’Oro (Piazza della Cancelleria, 80): Great Roman food as well. Excellent veggies and pastas.
• Écru (Via Acciaioli, 13): Mostly vegan, raw, organic. Quite good.
• Esco Sazio (Via dei Banchi Vecchi, 135): Organic juice bar, smoothies, salads, soups. Avocado smoothie is amazing!

Piazza Navona

• Cul de Sac (Piazza di Pasquino, 73): Lentil soup, topik (garbanzo and bean app), artichoke flan, amazing bread, good greens. Extensive wine selection. Always crowded so expect a wait, but it’s worth it.
• Baffetto (Via del Governo Vecchio, 114): Cult following for their pizza. Recommend keeping it simple with the Margarita (but add arugula!). Always a wait.
• Alfredo e Ada (Via dei Banchi Nuovi, 14): No menu (always amazing lasagna)…just a recounting of their daily menu and then a haphazard calculation of your bill on the parchment tablecloth at the end…and will undoubtedly be half of what it should have been for the quantity and quality of the food.
• Navona Notte (Via del Teatro Pace, 44): Great cheap pizza. Pizza only, though. The rest of the menu is hit and miss.
•Vivi Bistro Nice departure from classic Roman dishes.

Ghetto

• Nonna Betta (Via del Portico d’Ottavia, 16): Their zucchini carbonara is still awesome! Made with zucchini instead of pancetta. Amazing artichokes, Jewish style, as well. Reservations advised.
• Bottega Tredici (Via dei Falegnami, 14): Fine dining in a lovely atmosphere. An unusual find in Rome.

Monti

• Trattoria Valentino (Via del Boschetto, 37) The best veggie menagerie in town. Artichoke and roasted radicchio plate is a must. All others as well.
• Al vino Al vino (Via dei Serpenti, 19): Cultish following of their caponata.

Pantheon

• Armando al Pantheon (Salita dei Crescenzi, 31): Traditional Roman fare. Amazing quality and killer fried artichokes and eggplant parmesan. Reservations advised.

Trastevere

• Proloco (Via Goffredo Mameli, 23): Everything is so good, locally sourced. Amazing roasted pumpkin and root vegetable.
•Aromaticus (Via Natale del Grande, 6/7): clean, organic, mostly vegan. Fantastic. https://www.aromaticus-roma.com/
•Bacco in Trastevere (P.za di S. Giovanni della Malva, 14): Southern italian options including fave and cicoria. Fun to do a lot of small plates like their parmigiana, caponata, zucchini, etc. and share.
•Pizzeria Ai Marmi (Viale di Trastevere, 53-59): Best pizza in town.
