{"id":66196,"date":"2026-04-17T11:28:37","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T18:28:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/new-tools\/sera\/topics\/award-setup-requests\/awards-holds\/"},"modified":"2026-04-17T11:28:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T18:28:40","slug":"awards-holds","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/new-tools\/sera\/topics\/award-setup-requests\/awards-holds\/","title":{"rendered":"Awards Holds"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#placing_a_hold\">Placing a Hold<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#knowing_a_hold_has_been_placed\">Knowing a Hold has been Placed<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"#on_the_award_request_list\">On the Award Request List<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#in_the_request\">In the Request<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"#in_comments_history\">In Comments &amp; History<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>OSP and GCA can apply and remove holds from an Award Setup Request or a Modification Request.<\/p>\n<p>A hold can be placed for a variety of reasons and applied when the Award Setup Request or the Modification Request is in any of the following statuses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>OSP Setup<\/li>\n<li>OSP Assigned<\/li>\n<li>Returned<\/li>\n<li>GCA Workday setup<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For additional information, review the Award Setup <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.uw.edu\/gca\/award-lifecycle\/award-setup\/holds\">Holds<\/a> page for GCA.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"placing_a_hold\">Placing a hold<\/h3>\n<p>1. Select the Holds form section located on the left navigation menu beneath &#8220;Supporting Documents.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>2. Select the <strong>Edit<\/strong> (little pencil icon) button in order to add holds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 20px\">The Holds form will display:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 20px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/Awards_holds_list.png\" alt=\"Awards Holds List\" width=\"500\" height=\"309\" \/><\/p>\n<p>3. Select all manual holds and compliance checks that apply:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General Hold<\/li>\n<li>Export Control Hold<\/li>\n<li>IACUC Approval Hold<\/li>\n<li>IRB Approval Hold<\/li>\n<li>Campus Input Required<\/li>\n<li>Sponsor Input Required<\/li>\n<li>GCA\/OSP Coordination Required<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4. When you are done, select the <strong>Save Changes<\/strong> button (on the right side of the page).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 20px\">Near the top of the page, the following text will display in a red font color (on all pages):<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 20px\">&#8220;Holds or compliance checks are in process. View the Holds or Review &amp; Submit section for more information.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 20px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1453\" src=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/Awards_holds_message.png\" alt=\"Awards Holds Message\" width=\"655\" height=\"104\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Your changes will be saved and displayed in the Comments &amp; History section of the Award Setup Request or a Modification Request.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> If there are no holds, the Holds content area will show &#8220;No holds or compliance checks added.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"knowing_a_hold_has_been_placed\">Knowing a Hold has been Placed<\/h3>\n<h4 id=\"on_the_award_request_list\">On the Award Request List<\/h4>\n<p>If a hold is applied to the Award Setup Request or Modification Request, a hold indicator icon will display to the right of the Request ID.<\/p>\n<p>The following image shows an example of an added hold on the Award Request List:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 20px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/Award-Reques-List-with-Holds-Campus.png\" alt=\"Awards Campus Holds message\" width=\"657\" height=\"128\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 id=\"in_the_request\">In the Request<\/h4>\n<p>Once a Hold is applied to the Award Setup Request or Modification Request, near the top of the page, the following text will display in a blue font color (on all pages):<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Holds or compliance checks are in process.
