{"id":66049,"date":"2026-04-17T11:21:55","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T18:21:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/new-tools\/fids\/topics\/overview-and-navigation\/"},"modified":"2026-04-17T11:21:56","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T18:21:56","slug":"overview-and-navigation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/new-tools\/fids\/topics\/overview-and-navigation\/","title":{"rendered":"Overview and Navigation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Financial Interest Disclosure System (FIDS) is an online system that investigators use to disclose Significant Financial Interests (SFI) related to their research projects.<\/p>\n<p>Access FIDS at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/tools\/fids\/\">http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/tools\/fids\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You will need to use FIDS to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Disclose your SFI for each eGC1 for which you are an investigator.<\/li>\n<li>Disclose changes you make to your SFI, including updating information, adding new SFI, \u00a0or deleting SFI.<\/li>\n<li>Disclose your SFI for a CoMotion technology transfer or Human Subjects Division (HSD).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Who must disclose Significant Financial Interest (SFI), review <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/policies\/gim-10-financial-conflict-of-interest-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GIM 10: Financial Conflict of Interest Policy<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Who is considered to be an investigator, review the UW Research <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/myresearch-lifecycle\/plan-and-propose\/recruit-team\/personnel\/\">Personnel<\/a>\u00a0page.<\/li>\n<li>Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) training, review the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/required-training\/financial-conflicts-of-interest-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">required trainings<\/a> page.<\/li>\n<li>Basic policy information, review the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/compliance\/financial-conflicts-of-interest-fcoi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UW FCOI Web site<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>How to use this system, access the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/training\/about-core\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">online FIDS training<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Parts of the Page<\/h2>\n<p>To help you navigate through FIDS, the following image shows the ten basic parts of the pages.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1053\" src=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/fids_overview_page_parts.jpg\" alt=\"example page with the parts numbered\" width=\"799\" height=\"640\" \/><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Welcome<\/strong> with your name displays in the upper left of the window.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sign out<\/strong> link, which will log you out of FIDS, is to the right of your name.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Help<\/strong> link which will open a new window and display the FIDS User Guide and other support pages. It&#8217;s to the right of the sign out link.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Breadcrumb trail<\/strong> which you can click to return to your Profile page. Displays on the left, below the green FIDS banner.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Page title<\/strong> which indicates the purpose of the page. Displays below the breadcrumb trail.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Action Bar<\/strong> which will contain icons appropriate to the page. The Delete (trashcan) and Save icons appear in this image and appear on the right side of the bar, just below the page title.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Section heading<\/strong> with a help icon to provide contextual help for this part of the page.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Main section<\/strong> of the page, indicated by the pale colored background, where you might view information, enter or edit data, or click a link to add information in a new window.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Page footer<\/strong> which contains buttons and\/or links to complete this page and move to the next, or cancel out of this page and return to a prior state or page. Displays below the main section.<\/li>\n<li><strong>System footer<\/strong> which contains links to Learning and Contact Us information.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Tip:<\/strong> Do not use your browser\u2019s back button to navigate.
