For additional information on research team roles, review the UW Research\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/myresearch-lifecycle\/plan-and-propose\/recruit-team\/personnel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Personnel<\/a>\u00a0page.<\/p>\n<p>When including one or more Multiple PIs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify the UW Contact PI as the &#8220;Principal Investigator&#8221; on the eGC1<\/li>\n<li>List all multiple PIs on the Personnel page of the eGC1 and choose &#8220;Multiple PI&#8221; from the drop-down list<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/faq\/pi-designated-multiple-pi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">When should a PI be designated as a Multiple PI?<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/faq\/whats-difference-pipd-multiple-pi-co-pi-co-investigator-application-pi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">What&#8217;s the difference between a PD\/PI, Multiple PI, a Co-Investigator, and an Application PI?<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>SAGE will add the Multiple PI to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/tools\/sage\/guide\/approvals\/approvals-overview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Approval Flow<\/a> and send an &#8220;approval required&#8221; email notification at the appropriate time. If the person selected does not already have an ASTRA role for SAGE, a warning message of &#8220;no access: ASTRA permissions required&#8221; will display in red once you select the Multiple PI role. You will need to give them access so that they can approve the application.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong>Note: <\/strong>If the Multiple PI only needs access to SAGE to approve applications, there are two <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/tools\/sage\/guide\/sage-overview\/sage-astra-roles#researchers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ASTRA roles<\/a>, Non-PI Eligible Researcher, and Researcher Requiring Faculty Sponsor that could be used.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the approval process, the UW Multiple PIs are required to certify the PI Assurance Statement. The image below shows the assurance statement in the approval dialog.<\/p>\n<p>The Assurance Statement reads:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">I certify that the statements in this eGC1 and the related sponsor application are true, complete and accurate to the best of my knowledge. I am aware that any false, fictitious, or fraudulent statements or claims may subject me to criminal, civil, or administrative penalties. I agree to accept responsibility for the scientific conduct of the project and to provide the required progress reports if a grant is awarded as a result of this application.<\/p>\n<p>The Principal Investigator\/Program Director Assurance statement reads:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">I am the PI and I have read and agree with the PI Assurance Statement. I understand that approving this eGC1 electronically is equivalent to my signature.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9408\" src=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/pi_approval_assurance_stmt.jpg\" alt=\"P I approval with assurance statement\" width=\"812\" height=\"603\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Non-UW Multiple PI<\/h2>\n<p>If the Multiple PI is a non-UW person (an affiliate), SAGE will not add them to the approval graph. If they have a NetID, they could be given access to SAGE and added as an <a href=\"\/research\/tools\/sage\/guide\/approvals\/ad-hoc-reviewers\/add-ad-hoc-reviewer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ad hoc approver<\/a> to the graph.<\/p>\n<p>In most cases a non-UW multiple PI will not have a UW NetID. Therefore, the certification will be handled manually following the Non-UW Multiple PI Assurance Statement Instructions described below.<\/p>\n<p>The eGC1 PI is responsible for securing assurance statements for non-UW Multiple PIs.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"non-uw-mpi\">Non-UW Multiple PI Assurance Statement Instructions<\/h2>\n<p>The following steps describe the paper process.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Download the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/tools\/sage\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/04\/NON-UW-MPI-Cert-2018.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Non-UW Multiple PI Assurance Statement<\/a> (PDF)<\/li>\n<li>Include the UW PI name, eGC1 # and Project Title<\/li>\n<li>Send to Multiple PI for signature<\/li>\n<li>Retain signed copy in local unit files<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This article covers both UW and non-UW Multiple PIs.
