In addition to updating the PI field, other basic questions in the application must be answered.<\/p>\n<p>If the study is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov through the UW, contact\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:hsdreprt@uw.edu\">hsdreprt@uw.edu<\/a> regarding the PI change. Put\u00a0<strong>CT.gov<\/strong>\u00a0in the subject line for efficient triage of your message.<\/p>\n<p>When the modification is approved, the changes are published into the approved study and the new PI is granted access to the Zipline application.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"internal\">How to Change Study PI<\/h2>\n<p>Review <a href=\"#external\">these instructions<\/a> if you need to change the PI for a single site external IRB study or an external IRB study created before January 7, 2020.<\/p>\n<div class=\"accordion \" id=\"accordion\">\n<div class=\"screen-reader-text\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card-header\" id=\"accordion-header\">\n<h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn btn-link\" type=\"button\" data-toggle=\"collapse\" data-target=\"#collapse\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse\"><span class=\"btn-text\">Step 1: Create Modification<\/span><span class=\"arrow-box\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span><\/span><\/button><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" role=\"region\">\n<ul>\n<li>Click Modify Study in the study workspace\n<ul>\n<li>For studies reviewed by a non-UW IRB, click Create Site Modification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-31029 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Managing-Study-Access-Change-Study-PI-Modify-Study.png\" alt=\"screenshot of the modify study button\" width=\"262\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Managing-Study-Access-Change-Study-PI-Modify-Study.png 262w, https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Managing-Study-Access-Change-Study-PI-Modify-Study-196x300.png 196w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 262px) 100vw, 262px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Indicate that the purpose of the submission is modification\/update, the scope is \u201cOther parts\u201d, and select Continue\n<ul>\n<li>Zipline only allows one active modification of each type at a time. If there is already an open modification to \u201cOther parts\u201d either incorporate the PI change into the open modification or wait until the open modification has been approved and then submit a new modification to \u201cOther parts of the study.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-31028 size-full\" reason for the PI change in Question 3, and click <strong>Continue<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card-header\" id=\"accordion-header\">\n<h3 Update the application to reflect the change in PI<\/span><span class=\"arrow-box\"><span class=\"arrow\"><\/span><\/span><\/button><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"collapse\" class=\"collapse \" aria-labelledby=\"collapse\" data-parent=\"#accordion\" role=\"region\">\n<ul>\n<li>Click the ellipsis to update the Local Principal Investigator Field to the new PI<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make any other changes to the application that may be needed based on the PI change\n<ul>\n<li><strong>EXAMPLE<\/strong>: For UW reviewed studies, if the consent form lists the old PI and is still in use, make sure to upload a new version listing the new PI<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Select <strong>Save<\/strong> and <strong>Exit<\/strong> out of the draft SmartForm once your changes are complete<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card\">\n<div class=\"card-header\" id=\"accordion-header\">\n<h3 class=\"mb-0\"><button class=\"btn btn-link\" role=\"region\">\n<ul>\n<li>After exiting the draft SmartForm, you are in the Modification Workspace. <strong>The modification workspace lists the new Principal Investigator but the new PI will not have access until the modification is approved.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>From the Modification Workspace, the PI or PI proxy must click Submit to send the modification for HSD review<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-31031 size-full\"
