{"id":25963,"date":"2018-10-19T10:06:40","date_gmt":"2018-10-19T17:06:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/?page_id=25963"},"modified":"2024-05-23T17:10:49","modified_gmt":"2024-05-24T00:10:49","slug":"sfi-review-for-unsponsored-research-that-requires-irb-approval","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/sfi-review-for-unsponsored-research-that-requires-irb-approval\/","title":{"rendered":"SFI Review for Unsponsored Research that Requires IRB Approval"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>What research requires IRB approval?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Internally funded or unfunded research activities with an IRB component.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborative or multi-site research activities relying on an external (non-UW) IRB.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"list-builder-buttons\">Who needs to disclose?<\/h2>\n<p>Any \u201cInvestigator\u201d on the study with a related Significant Financial Interest requiring review by the Office of Research.<\/p>\n<h2>How do I disclose?<\/h2>\n<p>For SFI Review of human subjects research not associated with external funding (no associated eGC1) Investigators will need to submit \u201cIRB Only\u201d FIDS disclosures. These may be created and submitted by following these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/tools\/fids\/\">Financial Interest Disclosure System (FIDS)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Click the \u201cCreate New Disclosure\u201d button located on the Investigator Profile page, at bottom of the \u2018Investigator Details\u2019 box.<\/li>\n<li>Select the option \u201cI need to make a disclosure for a CoMotion tech transfer agreement or IRB approval.\u201d Click \u201cNext\u201d button.<\/li>\n<li>Select the option \u201cHuman Subjects Activity.\u201d The screen will expand and prompt the Investigator to add: Title, Human Subjects Application Number, and Which IRB(s) will be reviewing your application (if applicable). When complete, click \u201cNext\u201d button.<\/li>\n<li>Select the option \u201cYes\u201d for \u201cDoes your SFI pertain to this research activity?\u201d (If it is not related, and this research is not PHS-sponsored, disclosure is not required).<\/li>\n<li>For the question \u201cDo you need to add new SFI or change existing SFI?\u201d\n<ol type=\"a\">\n<li><strong> Yes: <\/strong>\n<ol type=\"i\">\n<li>If an entity needs to be added or edited select the option \u201cYes\u201d for \u201cDo you need to add new SFI or change existing SFI?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>To edit an SFI, click the corresponding hyperlink under \u201cName of Entity\u201d column, make appropriate changes, and click the \u201cNext\u201d button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong> No: <\/strong>\n<ol type=\"i\">\n<li>Click \u201cNext\u201d button, skip to step #8.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>Complete Disclosure\u201d page, check boxes next to any related SFI entities, add or edit your Narrative as needed, and click the \u201cSubmit Disclosure\u201d button.<\/li>\n<li>To expedite the review please submit a notification to fcoirep@uw.edu that a disclosure has been submitted and include, when available, the Disclosure ID and Human Subjects Activity Number (e.g. Zipline Study ID).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>How do I request review?<\/h2>\n<p>Please submit notification to <a href=\"mailto:fcoirep@uw.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fcoirep@uw.edu<\/a> that a disclosure has been submitted and include, when available, the Disclosure ID and Human Subjects Activity Number (e.g. Zipline Study ID).<\/p>\n<p>More guidance about FCOI at the University <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/research\/compliance\/financial-conflicts-of-interest-fcoi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What research requires IRB approval?
