The University of Washington Innovation Awards
Many of the challenges confronting us today in areas such as the environment, health care and education require novel approaches, ones that break open new territory in a field. The University of Washington Innovation Awards fueled the ideas that address problems of humanity while encouraging and celebrating creativity among faculty.
The Innovation Awards were established in 2014 as part of the UW President’s Innovation Imperative, a broad institutional effort to foster a University-wide innovation mindset. The awards were conceived as a way to stimulate innovation among faculty from a range of disciplines and to reward some of their most terrific ideas — whether in fundamental, discovery-based work or in translational approaches. The awards, which were made possible by generous donors, typically ranged from $100,000 to $500,000 over two years. They supported innovative educational approaches and creative faculty in engineering, health and the natural and social sciences.
