Mani Soma is currently the Associate Vice Provost for Research for Industry Relations, and a professor of electrical engineering. At the Office of Research, Soma assists in strategic planning, building relationships with industry, coordination with UW Professional Continuing Education to provide lifelong learning opportunities to industry practitioners, and management of major research initiatives.

His research involves the design and test of integrated circuits, with a strong focus on high-frequency on-chip tests for mixed-signal systems for communication and sensing applications. He recently initiates new research programs on hardware design-for-security. Soma earned his bachelor's degrees in electrical engineering and math, with a minor in physics at California State University-Fresno. He then attended Stanford University for graduate studies, earning a doctorate in 1980. He worked for General Electric in Schenectady, NY, before coming to the UW as an assistant professor in 1982.

Prior to joining the Office of Research as an Associate Vice Provost for Research, he was the acting dean, and associate dean for organizational infrastructure for the College of Engineering. He has also served the UW as an associate chairman and acting chairman for the Department of Electrical Engineering.
