Delayed Onset Human Research (DOHR)

What is DOHR?

Delayed Onset Human Research (DOHR) is the new name for Limited Activities Determination (LAD).

Regulations give federal agencies and their grantee institutions the discretion to allow a limited release of federal research funding to investigators without IRB approval or exempt status. DOHR status can be granted under these conditions:

  • Research that requires significant development work prior to involvement of human subjects.
  • Award mechanisms whose only human subjects research is funding for small projects or trainees that will be selected and funded by the awardee.
  • Clinical research networks or consortia that will create protocols over the course of the award.

For more information see the SOP named "Delayed Onset Human Research", linked at right.
