Genomic Data Sharing Policy Update: National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism

A recent National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) genomic data-sharing policy update related to human subject research grants funded by NIAAA is effective immediately.

These new requirements include proposal requirements for data sharing plans and budgeting. It is effective for all new, competing, renewal, revisions, and resubmissions to NIAAA.

The policy does not supersede the general NIH Genome Data Sharing Policy. However, it does mandate that unless NIAAA agrees to a different data archive during the negotiation of the award, the NIAAA Data Archive (NIAAADA)must serve as the repository for all genomic data funded by NIAAA.

We strongly encourage applicants to review the NIAAA website before submitting an application to NIAAA that will include human subjects research.
