Denise Louie Education Center, one of our many Program Partners, is known for its amazing work with diverse children for more than 35 years! It first began as a small preschool with the mission to promote school and life readiness, has now grown into three preschool centers; serving hundreds of families every year.

As you can imagine with a preschool site in the heart of the International District, Lunar New Year is quite an important holiday to many in the classrooms. On January 31st, 2014, JumpStart and Denise Louie Education Center both celebrated the Lunar New Year together.

In the beginning of the day, Lion Dancers came in with a spectacular performance, as a traditional of Lunar New Year. Following that, the children and parents had their own opportunity to lion dance in a student made lion head! Corp Members assisted children with activities such as passing out Lucky Envelopes, Calligraphy, balloon games, lantern making, and animal arts & crafts. When the children were done, everyone gathered around a Pinata filled with goods. And of course, a Lunar New Year party could not be concluded without a potluck.
