The UW Tower Data Center has earned ENERGY STAR Certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for a 2nd year in a row, 1 of just 22 U.S. data centers to qualify. This recognizes reduced power consumption, lowered carbon footprint and slower growth of future power needs. Only one other university’s data center was among those certified. The UW Tower Data Center, operated by UW-IT, scored 98 out of 100 for 2014 — three points higher than in 2013 — and provides managed space, power and cooling of critical infrastructure supporting IT departments campus-wide.
