Protect your new laptop or mobile device by registering your personal electronic equipment with UW Police to help in theft recovery, and by reading their crime prevention safety tips. The UW Office of Risk Management also provides loss control advice for laptops and mobile devices. University departments can buy low-cost coverage for owned, leased, or borrowed equipment (computer, office, audio-visual, and lab) used for UW work through Risk Management’s Equipment Insurance program.

Two new apps now available in UW Google Apps can broaden your ability to work collaboratively. With the Individual Storage app, you can now increase the storage quota for your account and you can pay for it using the Google Wallet app (ProCard compatible). These two apps provide one of the most frequently requested features for UW Google Apps—the ability to increase the space available in Google Drive and Gmail. Get information about UW Google Apps.

The UW Tower Data Center is one of just 27 data centers in the country to have earned a 2013 ENERGY STAR Certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This recognizes reduced power consumption, lowered carbon footprint, and slower growth of future power needs. The Tower Data Center, operated by UW-IT, provides managed space, power and cooling of critical infrastructure supporting IT departments campus-wide. The UW is one of only two universities in the country to have ever received this certification.

A major initiative to replace the University's 31-year-old legacy payroll application with a modern, integrated human resources and payroll system is underway. The HR/Payroll Modernization initiative will significantly improve support for the UW’s critical HR/payroll operations, strengthen regulatory compliance, and produce efficiencies and productivity gains throughout UW units. UW Provost and Executive Vice President Ana Mari Cauce explains in a short video why this is a key initiative for the University. UW students, faculty, and staff now can sign up for UW Alert to receive official information during emergencies for any or all of the UW’s three campuses, thanks to recent enhancements to the UW’s emergency mass notification system. You can also specify or change how you want to receive alerts—by text message and/or email—and you can unsubscribe. These enhancements also include automatically updating the UW Alert Facebook and Twitter pages, helping to keep the University community better informed during emergencies and disruptive situations.
