UW instructors, staff, and students can request a Canvas course site to see how the UW’s learning management system works, to create non-academic content such as staff training or a program site, or to begin building a site in advance of official course provisioning. Canvas courses are now available two quarters in advance, allowing more time for course development. To help prepare, Canvas Studio Time has drop-in hours in Odegaard’s new active learning classrooms for help from instructional technologists and other Canvas experts. UW-IT also offers four Canvas workshops through September 19: Introduction, Quizzes, Outcomes and Rubrics, and Moving From Catalyst.

Developed by UW-IT, the BI portal provides quick access to consistent and reliable data reporting and analysis tools for subject areas including research, academic, HR, finance, advancement, and facilities. An easy-to-use tile interface presents customized information for you, lets you see what’s trending, provide feedback, and get report recommendations. New apps have been added to UW Google Apps including Takeout, Translator Toolkit, Chrome Web Store, and Custom Search. Chrome Web Store has a wide range of extensions, themes, and apps designed for the Google Chrome browser, and Takeout allows you to export data from a number of Google products. Check out these additional apps and the others that are already available. Each app must undergo an enterprise risk assessment before UW-IT makes it available to the UW community. Support is provided by Google.

The 23,000 staff and affiliates who use the UW Medicine Learning Management System now all sign in the same way, using their familiar UW NetID and the UW’s Shibboleth Identity Provider that works with the Weblogin service for Web authentication. This is one of the larger applications to move to these centrally funded services, and underscores a positive trend toward the widening use of standards-based protocols at the UW that enable single sign-on for better user experience and satisfaction while reducing cost and complexity, and providing for cross-institutional collaboration when it’s needed. Other UW units interested in making a similar change can get information online about UW NetID and Authentication services provided by UW-IT.

Explore the history of this legendary cowboy and other great characters from radio, stage, and screen in Entertainment Industry Magazine Archive, a digitized collection of popular and trade publications covering film, broadcasting, popular music, and theater published in the U.S. and Great Britain from their inceptions through 2000.

A new Financial Aid “Shopping Sheet” is now available for prospective students that provides easy-to-read information about the University’s costs and their UW financial aid package. The Shopping Sheet makes it easier for students to compare offers from different colleges by using a standardized template, developed by the US Department of Education, which 500 colleges and universities have committed to adopting during the 2013-2014 school year. The UW’s Shopping Sheet was developed by UW-IT and the Office of Student Financial Aid, and is available in the financial aid status portion of Student Personal Services, which can be accessed through MyUW.
