Hello Huskies!

The IMA is open to all Fall Quarter UW Seattle 2020 students!  Please read below for more information about your visit to the IMA as your trip will look a little different upon reopening.

*All spring/summer 2020 student IMA memberships expired on Sunday, September 20, 2020.

Everything is guided by the operational principles from the State’s Phase 2 guidelines, such as maintaining 300 sq. feet of distancing while exercising and maintaining 25% of building’s capacity. Members are required to wear a face covering outside and when in the IMA Building at all times, even when exercising.

So, what can you expect? First, you are required to register for a check-in time block to use the IMA Building prior to each visit.  If you cannot make your time block that you registered for, you are REQUIRED to cancel your reservation (penalties apply for not cancelling your reservation).  You will also be required to sign a Facility Access Waiver BEFORE arriving to the IMA Building the first time. See below for more information on how to register, how to cancel a reservation and how to sign the Waiver for IMA facility access.

Upon arriving at the IMA, you will be met by a greeter who will ask you a few questions, verify that you have made a reservation to use the IMA and direct you where to go. The entrance and exit will be separate to control the flow of traffic and minimize contact. There will be signage and tape on the floor to help members know where to stand, which way to walk (if applicable) and identify the maximum occupancy in most spaces.

Plexiglass barriers will be in place at the Member Services Desk and members will be asked to swipe their own Husky Card/IMA membership Card or utilize the FusionGO app (coming soon!) on their phone to check in. The two staircases beyond the lobby (by Gym A and by Gym D) will be designated as one way only (one up, one down). The staircases by Gym B and Gym C will be closed.

There is a limited amount of cardio and weight equipment available due to the state guidelines (300 sq. feet per person). Equipment that has been designated as “out of order” is not to be used. In the cardio room, there will be arrows on the floor to encourage the use of one way walking.

Tape has been placed on the floor in the weight room to separate exercise areas. Most areas have a maximum capacity indicated. No shared equipment or spotting allowed. Please read and abide by the signage. If you have any questions, please email or ask a UW Recreation staff member.

1st floor

· Weight Room

· First Aid Office

2nd floor

· Cardio Room

· Gym A (Two basketball hoops available – shooting only)

· Gym B (Four courts for Badminton – singles play only)

· Gym C (Three courts for Volleyball – doubles play only)

· Crags Climbing Center

· Vending Machines (located in the Kitchen/Vending Area)

3rd floor

· Pariseau Gym (Two basketball hoops available – shooting only)

4th floor

· All (North Cardio Room, South Weight Room, and Track)

Outdoor spaces available (open)

· South Tennis Courts – reservations only, max four people per court

· Sand Volleyball Courts – reservations only, max four people per court

· Field # 1 – reservations only, max five people per field

Face coverings are required when six feet of physical distancing cannot be maintained. Equipment Checkout will not be open so you will need to bring your own gear.

To reserve outdoor spaces, click here and follow the directions below.

  • Click on the Court Reservations icon.
  • Log in using your UW NetID.
  • Select the type of court/field you would like to reserve (left).
  • Select date.
  • Click Reserve on your preferred time slot.
  • Enter your name in the participants box.
  • Make sure all information is correct (date, time, court #) before clicking Reserve Now.
  • A confirmation will be sent to your email on file.
    • We suggest having your reservation confirmation available on your phone to verify to anyone using the court/field that you have official and immediate priority.

Barriers and cones from Husky Rock were removed as well as signs from the grass fields that don’t have fences (Field #2 and Field #4). We are not requiring reservations for those spaces, though proper social distancing guidelines should be maintained.

The Equipment Checkout station is closed until further notice, and volleyballs, soccer balls, badminton rackets, shuttlecocks, footballs, tennis rackets, etc. will not be available for use. You may bring your own equipment to use in the open spaces. Towel service will not be provided at this time.

All stretching mats, foam rollers, and physio-balls have been removed from the floor and are not available. Sports, such as basketball, volleyball, racquetball, handball, squash, and futsal will not be offered yet.

The Pavilion Pool, ASUW Shellhouse, Gear Garage, Field #3, North Tennis Courts, and the Chase Anderson Basketball Court remain closed as well.

Important information to review before your arrival

We encourage you to help keep yourself and your fellow students safe by familiarizing yourself with, and following, current state and local guidelines.

  • Stay home when feeling sick
  • Wash hands thoroughly and properly
  • Maintain proper physical distancing
  • Wear a face covering
  • Disinfect equipment before and after use

We ask that everyone remember to bring their Husky Card/IMA Membership Card to limit the amount of person-to-person contact when checking in.

Face coverings are required to be worn at all times, even while exercising. You may remove your face covering to hydrate. Please bring your own water bottle. Water fill stations will be available for use, but water fountains will not be available.

Remember to clean equipment before and after use. Sanitation stations are available throughout the facility with disinfectant wipes and rags/disinfectant spray. UW Recreation staff will clean high touch points, restrooms, etc. periodically throughout the day.

It is advised to dress in workout attire and limit the number of items you bring with you. Please bring only what you need and remember to keep your personal items with you.

All UW Recreation employees reporting for work will be required to complete a “Working On-Site Attestation” survey each day they report to work.

Registering for a check-in time block to access the IMA Building


The time block you sign up for is good for a 30-minute entrance window. This means you must arrive at the IMA Building during the time block you registered for to check-in. If you arrive after your scheduled check-in time block, your reservation will be forfeited. If you arrive before your scheduled check-in time block, you may be asked to wait outside. Reservations can be made 7 days in advance.

There is a limit on the number of members who can register during each time block to limit capacity inside the IMA Building. Once inside the IMA Building, you are allowed to stay as long as you want to complete your workout.

  • Click here to sign up for a check-in time and follow the directions below.
  • Click on the purple “Log In” button in the top right corner.
  • Click on the orange “UW NETID” button to login.
    • Upon logging in the first time to the online portal, you should be prompted to sign a Recreation Waiver for Facility Access. If you are not prompted to sign the Recreation Waiver for Facility Access upon signing in, click the ‘bell’ icon in the top right corner and click ‘Facility Access – Sign the waiver(s) to access facilities’ – YOU MUST SIGN THE WAIVER BEFORE ACCESSING THE IMA BUILDING.
    • Click inside the gray box to sign your name.
    • Sign your name inside the white box and click the purple ‘Save’ button.
    • Click the purple ‘Sign Now’ button.
  • Click on the “Safe Start IMA Facility Access” Icon.
  • Click on the day of the week you want to work out on: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays, or Fridays.
  • Click the purple ‘Register’ button on your desired time block to access the IMA Building. Available dates are only shown seven days in advance.
  • Click ‘Register’ next the person’s name whom you wish to register.
  • Review the information, answer the questions and click the purple “Add to Cart” button.
  • Click the purple “Checkout” button. This will happen twice to confirm you want to checkout.
  • You will receive two emails (to the email on file, usually your UW email) from UW Recreation (
    • One of the emails will include your registration confirmation.
    • The second email is your online purchase receipt with important information regarding your visit.
    • Please read the information in its entirety so you know what to expect when visiting the IMA Building.

Changing and Cancelling your Reservation

Please only make one Reservation (arrival window) per day to visit the IMA. You may stay as long as you want once you arrive (subject to change).

Beginning Monday, October 5th, we will be tracking individuals that do not show up for their reservation time-block.  If you do not show up for your reserved time-block, you will be considered a ‘no-show’.   On the third ‘no-show’ your IMA membership will be suspended for 7 days.  During the 7 day membership suspension period, you forfeit any and all reservations made during this time.  You will not be able to make any future reservations until your membership becomes active.

Please understand that when you do not show up and do not cancel your reservation, you are taking away an opportunity for a fellow student to utilize the IMA. There are a limited number of spots available daily which have been filling up so if you make a reservation and cannot make your reservation, you are REQUIRED to cancel your reservation, which you can do at any time after registering and up to 1 minute before you time slot begins.  Although we ask you do so as far in advance as possible.

How to cancel your IMA reservation

  1. Go to the Online Member Portal
  2. In the upper right hand corner of the screen, click on the “Log In” button using your UW NETID and    password.
  3. Once you have logged in, click your name in the top right corner of the screen.  Click on “Profile” in the dropdown menu that appears.
  4. On the left side of the screen, under Personal Information, click on ‘Programs”.  This will take you to your reservations.
  5. Under your Program Registrations, find the reservation you would like to cancel.  On the right side of that row, you will find a box with three dots.
  6. Click on the box with the three dots and click “Cancel Registration” in the dropdown menu that appears.
  7. You will then be asked if you would like to cancel your registration.  Click on “Yes, Cancel Registration”.  Your registration will then be cancelled.

Collecting items from your basket or locker at the IMA Building

Access to the locker rooms is currently restricted to UW Recreation staff only. Staff will bag items previously left behind for pick-up by email request only; we are not taking in-person requests to limit our contact with patrons.

If you wish to pick up your items from your basket/locker at the IMA Building (with or without current IMA membership), email with the following information:

  • Full name
  • Student or Employee ID Number (if you have a Spouse or Plus One Membership and do not have a student or employee ID number, please include the primary person’s full name)
  • UW email address
  • Locker number
  • Would you like to vacate your locker? Yes/No

You will receive a confirmation from once your items are ready for pick up (please allow 3 – 5 business days). You will be required to wear a face covering to enter the IMA Building to collect your belongings.

To pick up your items, please stop by the IMA Member Services Desk during open hours (11:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.) and show your Husky Card/IMA Membership Card to the staff member. The staff member will provide your bagged items for you. Make sure to check the items in your bag before exiting the IMA Building. If there is an issue, see a staff member for assistance.
