HLI Seeks Table Captains and Mentors!

We are gearing up for an exciting year ahead and are seeking UW faculty, staff, alumni and community volunteers to engage in meaningful leadership education experiences with UW students. Whether it be a one-time commitment or a more in-depth engagement (or both!), we hope you will continue to support students’ leadership journeys.

Please consider volunteering to serve as a U Lead We Lead 2015 table captain and/or a Husky Leadership Certificate mentor!

U Lead We Lead is the Husky Leadership Initiative’s annual event that kicks off the academic year by bringing students, faculty, staff and community members together to engage in conversations about leadership. Local corporate, academic and non-profit community leaders share their personal journeys and lessons learned about leadership from their fields in this inspiring and interactive event.

The U Lead We Lead planning committee is seeking 60 faculty/staff/community members to serve as table captains during this event. Table captains play a vital role by encouraging participation and sharing to help students and other participants to reflect upon the ideas presented by the featured speakers. You will be teamed up with a UW student leader to co-facilitate these conversations with the 6-7 students at your table. Discussion questions will be provided for you, and the only time commitment is from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15 in the HUB Ballroom. This time commitment includes a training session, dinner, and the event itself.

We hope you will consider volunteering to serve as a table captain! This is a perfect opportunity to reflect with undergraduate students as they explore the idea of what it means to engage in leadership. Learn about this year’s speakers on the U Lead We Lead website. Table Captains are requested to register by Wednesday, September 30.

Are you interested in engaging with students and supporting them as they reflect on their own leadership development? If so, consider becoming a Husky Leadership Certificate Mentor!

The Husky Leadership Initiative is currently seeking 120 UW faculty, staff, and community members to serve as mentors for the 2015-2016 Husky Leadership Certificate (HLC) cohort. The goals of HLC are to recognize student leadership and engage students in a process of critical reflection on their leadership development and accomplishments.

As a mentor, you will be matched with a current UW student and will support them as they create an online leadership portfolio from January 2016-May 2016. Through the creation of the e-portfolio, students will reflect upon, articulate, and demonstrate their leadership competencies and learning. Feedback from former HLC students highlight the great value and positive impact of the mentoring relationship.

For more information, please visit our website. If you are interested in pursuing this role, please submit the Mentor Interest Form by Monday, October 19 at 5:00 p.m. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at
