Thanks to you, this last fiscal year was nothing less than extraordinary at the University of Washington. Your involvement and unheralded generosity spurred innovation, opened doors and transformed the lives of thousands.
Your giving led to the creation of 37 new undergraduate scholarships, 33 graduate fellowships and 59 funds that help our students. That means that more young Huskies can focus their unbridled energy on their studies instead of worrying about making ends meet. At the same time, 10 new professorships and two new chairs were established, fortifying our faculty and strengthening opportunities for research.
On a greater scale, your investment is also propelling our economy. The UW launched a record 17 new start-up companies last fiscal year, a number that puts us in the top five in the nation for commercialization efforts. These new companies will benefit the public with life-changing discoveries found in the same UW labs that you support.
One of the most exciting events at the UW has been the renovation of a campus icon: Husky Stadium. The stadium is a place where we all gather to celebrate, engage and express our loyalty and love for the University that transcends generations. The revamp of this historic stadium became reality through thousands of volunteer hours and more than $52 million in private gifts.
It’s because of your support that our students, faculty and researchers are able to thrive. I am incredibly grateful for your remarkable vision for the UW, and I look forward to another memorable year. Thank you for being a part of the University’s story — past, present and future.
