What’s the difference between a good university and a truly great one? I have found that the best universities, like the University of Washington, have the most engaged supporters. When you combine the extraordinary involvement of this community with the dedication of our faculty and students, there’s very little this University can’t accomplish.
After an exceptional year of honoring the University’s 150th anniversary, we are focused on ensuring that the UW continues to reach new heights. We are doing that by finding answers to challenging questions. How can we harness technology to make classroom time as meaningful as possible and the University even more accessible? How can we leverage our entrepreneurial culture to accelerate the number of new companies started by UW research? And how can we help solve some of the planet’s greatest challenges, like meeting our energy needs and improving the health and well-being of people everywhere? The answers are in reach in large part because of you and the vision you share with the UW that even the world’s toughest questions can be solved when we work together. Reaching for excellence and achieving it simply wouldn’t be possible without you and all of the people highlighted on this site. I hope that you take personal pride in knowing the University of Washington is not only one of the finest universities in the country, it is one of the finest in the world.
I can’t thank you enough for believing in the University of Washington. I am incredibly grateful for your generosity, and I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together next.
