Summer Arts Festival

College of Arts & Sciences, Departments of Art, Dance, Drama & Music

The Summer Arts Festival is the centerpiece of a larger UW arts initiative. This festival will bring together artists from all four of the UW arts units, the Henry Art Gallery and Meany Hall, outstanding professionals, students, K-14 teachers, and art enthusiasts and novices alike. The festival has a unifying theme, around which its events and activities revolve, and serves as a fulcrum to redesign a wide range of activities. The Festival, although it will be most visible and reach its largest audience over four days in July 2000, creates new courses and new opportunities for students, for faculty, and for the community. Behind the arts initiative and this Tools proposal lies the goal of a large transformation of the arts—in how they interact with each other and the community and how arts education is constructed.
