InterIm CDA is a non-profit organization that for the past 41 years has worked to preserve the history, culture, and integrity of Seattle’s International District. In 1975 InterIm CDA built the Danny Woo Garden to provide a source of food security for the low-income, elderly, Asian-immigrants living in the area. This service-learning position will continue to help the Danny Woo Garden become a model of sustainable urban agriculture and community development.

Work description
Garden Volunteers will work alongside the Garden Manager and Volunteer Coordinator on general garden maintainance which includes: pruning, weeding, mulching with woodchips, making compost, spreading compost, caring for chickens, and trash removal. Ability to speak Mandarin, Cantonese, or Korean is a bonus. No garden knowledge is necessary. The opportunity to assist with garden related indoor work such as grant writing, event coordination, and so on; may be available to students who express interest.

Students interested in learning more about sustainable urban agriculture and would like to take on larger projects are encouraged to speak to the Garden Manager.

The Danny Woo Community Garden serves the multigenerational-Asian immigrant community of the Chinatown/International District. This service-learning position will help provide a source of nutrition, recreation, and socialization for the youth and elders of this community.

There will be a supervisor in the garden Tuesdays and Wedsnesdays from 10-4. It is best if you can commit to coming on one of these days each week for 3-5 hours, but we are flexible and can work with you to fufill your required hours (by coming on multiple days, working more hours per day, or participating
