Context

Full Life Care’s Adult Day Health Care Centers provide social and health services to older adults with chronic or terminal illnesses, and adults who have brain injuries and developmental disablities. We are working toward a future where adults with serious illnesses or disabilities can be supported in the community rather than live in isolation or institutional care.

Work Description

Students will assist clients and staff in a variety of fun and therapeutic activity groups including art, gardening, cooking, games, exercises, sports, reading, trivia, dancing, current events discussion, and coffee/social hours. They will also help with lunch and/or dinner service. Students will learn about social work, nursing, occupational therapy, dementia care, geriatrics, and recreational therapy. We are a day center and participants come for the day to receive nursing and rehab services in a fun group setting. We are open 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday.

Impact
We serve people from diverse ethnic backgrounds. Our clients range in age from 18 to over 100 years old, with an average age of 72. About half have some form of memory loss. Approximately 97% are considered low-income. On average, participants have 3 medical diagnoses. Volunteers and interns make a difference by helping with activities and providing companionship.

Location: Organization Address
The student will work with their supervisor to choose the location that best fits their needs for the duration of their placement.
We have a sites in Everett and North Seattle that are looking for volunteers to serve. Please inquire if you live/work closer to Snohomish County and are interested in that location.
We also have a site in South Seattle, in the Columbia City neighborhood if you are closer to the 98118 zip code.
We are close to several bus routes.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old
  • Must commit for 6 months
  • Background check required
  • TB test required
  • Other paperwork: food handler’s permit is preferred.

Skills Needed
6 hour commitment once per week for 6 months.

6 hours per week for 6 months (2 quarters) is the time frame for this position. We request that you choose a set schedule that doesn’t change, so that we know when to expect you each week and plan activities accordingly.
