Adult Ally Program

Position title: Adult Ally Program

Name of organization: Powerful Voices

Position description:

Powerful Voices Adult Ally Program

Since 1995, Powerful Voices has provided strength-based, gender specific programming to girls in public middle schools, juvenile detention, and through employment programs. One employment program called Activistas offers youth the opportunity to explore activism and advocacy. Girls ages 14-19 are recruited independently and through the Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative. In the program, they engage in critical thinking and develop communication and presentation skills by researching and creating workshops on social issues that impact their communities. They will ultimately present these workshops at Powerful Voices’ 8th annual youth-led, social justice conference, Girlvolution.

We are searching for powerful people who identify as women to help support and learn with youth in group and one-on-one settings.  Because most of the young people we serve identify as people of color, Powerful Voices aims to build an Adult Ally (AA) cohort that reflects and supports the youth we serve.  While volunteering with youth may challenge your patience, push your boundaries, and confront your personal and cultural norms, working directly with the Activistas will undoubtedly inspire you.
