Position title: Citizenship Tutor – Training in early October!!


Name of organization: St. James Immigrant Assistance




Position description:

Assist an adult refugee or immigrant to learn or improve their English in preparation for passing the Naturalization Exam for U.S. Citizenship. Immigrants with U.S. citizenship have better job opportunities and improved access to higher education. They are less likely to struggle financially than non-citizens. But more than that, U.S. citizenship offers immigrants a sense of belonging. It reduces stress and improves health. This leads to stronger, more capable individuals, families and communities.


Time commitment: Meet with your student at least once per week, for 1.5 hours, for six months.


Skill requirements:

  • Fluency in English
  • Good communication
  • Personable
