Position description:

Our volunteer instructors are at the core of the Girls Who Code Clubs Program. This is a truly unique opportunity to empower women in CS and help transform the landscape of tech into a better, more inclusive industry. Our Facilitators come from a range of backgrounds, including faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students, and young professionals.


You’ll facilitate a project-based curriculum that teaches girls to use computer science to impact their community and help provide a supportive sisterhood of peers and role models within the Club to sustain their interest in computer science. The curriculum is designed by Girls Who Code and the girls work on laptops to work on their assignments. Facilitators are there to help the girls work through their assignments and explain complicated ideas and concepts.


This position is at the Des Moines Library with the King County Public Library System. The facilitator will work closely with the teen service librarian. The club will meet once a week for two hours after school. The exact day and time the club will meet is still open depending on volunteer availability.


Time commitment: 2 hours a week


Skill requirements:

You have to have:

-Passion for Girls Who Code and our mission


3-4 hours per week, including travel & prep time -Knowledge of programming fundamentals such as loops, conditionals, and functions  -Some experience working with middle school or high school students (ex: teaching, TAing, or volunteering) -No Computer Science degree required
