Position title: Assistive Technology Computer Center Monitor

Position description:

We are looking for volunteers to help staff a free, public computer lab specializing in assistive technology for computer users with vision or mobility impairments.  This computer center is located in a Low Income Public Housing complex, and serves a variety of able-bodied and disabled visitors who may not have an internet connection or a personal computing device in their home.  This position has a lot of down time between assisting visitors in which volunteers can study or do other personal tasks on the computer, and it is a great position for someone looking for a community experience working with low income and/or disabled individuals or has an interest in assistive technology.


Time commitment:

2 hours per week, more possible. (Center hours are 1pm to 7pm Monday through Friday)


Skill requirements:

– must be proficient in Windows 7 and 10, Microsoft suite, comfortable with a variety of web browsers

– experience tutoring a plus, as volunteers may be asked to assist computer users one on one with basic computing questions

– experience with disability accommodations or assistive technology such as JAWS, ZoomText, or switch computing is a plus


Start date: ongoing


End date: ongoing, commitment of at least 3 months


Location: South Central Seattle
