Volunteer for Youth Engagement Program

Here’s a position description:

Horn of Africa Services is seeking excited, engaging volunteers for our 2016 Summer Youth Engagement Program!


As a volunteer to the 2016 Summer Youth Engagement Program, you will:

– Serve as a friend and mentor to East African immigrant and refugee youth;

– Assist in guiding a variety of activities focused on community, physical activity, and health;

– Participate alongside youth in exciting adventures and games!


The 2016 Summer Youth Engagement Program runs Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 11 am to 3 pm, beginning July 11th and ending August 18th. The program is open to 15 East African immigrant and refugee youth, ages 11-18. The main program site will be the Urban Impact’s Art House in South Seattle, with field trips on most Tuesdays and Thursdays. Program activities will include hiking, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, rock climbing, hip-hop dancing, and farming, among others.


Volunteers need only an interest in working with and participating alongside youth to qualify! Volunteers are expected to commit to at least one consistent day a week throughout the program, with a preference for those who would like to come more often.
