Position description:

Peace for the Streets by Kids from the Streets is a resource center and shelter for homeless youth on Capitol Hill.  PSKS was founded by youth to better serve the population, and practices a low barrier philosophy of engagement by which all are eligible to receive services, regardless of race, gender, orientation, legal standing, or substance dependency.  PSKS serves a population that identifies roughly 50% LGBTQ, and is the only shelter that allows pets.


POSITION:  The HYPE (Homeless Youth Promoting Empowerment) drop in center is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 12-3.  The drop in center provides a meal, showers, laundry, provisions, and access to further services.  The center is operated by volunteers, who assist the HYPE coordinator by serving food, facilitating laundry, and engaging participants.  The primary responsibility of the HYPE center volunteers is to support the community of participants who come through the door, and help create a welcoming and safe environment.


Time commitment:

minimum 2 hours/week


Skill requirements:

Food Handler’s Permit a plus, but not required.
