Position description:

It has been found that a child from a high-income family will experience 30 million more words within the first four years of life than a child from a low-income family. Denise Louie Education Center works to close this opportunity gap by preparing kids for kindergarten and providing support and tools for the families.  You can help by volunteering to help with our summer program.


The Summer Program Assistant Volunteer will help the Summer Outreach and Enrollment Manager with incoming families into the summer program. Job duties may include: 1) Assist in outreach and recruiting efforts, 2) Check applications for completion and follow-up with any applications that requires more information, 3) Assist with translation in the enrollment process, if applicable and necessary, and 4) other tasks assigned to you by the Outreach and Enrollment Manager.  At the end of the program, you will have learned how to work with families from all backgrounds, be involved in the community, and work with great staff.


Time commitment:

10 hours a week until the end of July


Skill requirements:

– Bilingual in English and another language(Spanish, Chinese, or Vietnamese.)

– Prior experience working with families from diverse communities.

– Excellent skills in excel and data processing proficiencies including MS Word, Publisher, other applications.

– Knowledge of basic office equipment: copy, fax, voicemail, etc.

– Excellent oral and written communication skills – Organizational & time management skills.
