Position description:

By volunteering for as little as one hour each week you can make a significant and lasting impact on the lives of young elementary school children in under-resourced communities. Reading Partners Volunteer Tutors work one-on-one with kindergarten through fourth grade students whose literacy skills are one month to two and a half years below grade level benchmarks. By following a researched based-curriculum during each tutoring session, Reading Partners Volunteers are able to help students increase their rate of learning. In 2014, 85 percent of our students accelerated in reading and 67 percent were able to make absolute gains in closing their grade-level reading gaps.

 

Time commitment:

1 hour each week

 

Skill requirements:

Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older, fluent in the English language, able to pass a state background check and can commit to volunteering through the first week of June for one-hour each week.

Olympic Hills Elementary at Cedar Park (North Seattle), Beverly Park Elementary (South Seattle), Highland Park Elementary (West Seattle), Sanislo Elementary (West Seattle)
