Support Children Entering Foster Care with Amara Emergency Sanctuary

Support kids who are entering the foster care system

Position description:

The Amara Emergency Sanctuary offers temporary housing for children ages 0-12 who have just been removed from their homes by Child Protective Services or police forces. The Sanctuary offers a warm, nurturing environment, and stability for these kids during this traumatic time in their lives. Staff and volunteers help to ensure the kids at the Sanctuary feel safe, see a doctor if necessary, and get the care and attention that they need.


Time commitment:

At least one 4-6  hour shift per month for 6 months


Skill requirements:

Volunteers are required to have or complete CPR/First Aid/Blood Borne Pathogen certifications, and will receive De-Escalation and Trauma-Informed Care training. Volunteers should be comfortable taking care of kids, and have at least some childcare experience.
