Student Life Social Media Team Member

Are you looking to build upon your digital communications experience with a robust and growing UW social media presence? The UW Student Life (UWSL) social media team is looking for student volunteers to help manage our various social channels! *This opportunity will kick off with training in spring quarter 2015, with full commitment beginning in fall quarter 2015.

Summary of Position: Student Life social media volunteers plan and execute social content on behalf of the Division of Student Life, in coordination with the social media strategy for the division and in support of showcasing the overall UW student experience. Volunteers are required to attend a one-hour meeting once a week each quarter, as well as commit approximately 2 – 3 hours/week to the position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with Marketing and Communications Manager for Student Life, as well as student social media coordinator and volunteer student social media team members, to coordinate content
  • Ensure that social media strategy supports overall Student Life brand goals and objectives
  • Develop creative and innovative ideas for social campaigns, ways to use hashtags for generating buzz, etc.
  • Attend weekly meetings of volunteer UWSL social media team and maintain regular communication with student social media coordinator and UWSL Marketing and Communications Manager

Desired Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled (including fall 2015) UW-Seattle student with an interest in communications, business, marketing, social media, web/graphic design
  • Experience with social media channels and management tools for business/organizational purposes; experience using Hootsuite a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A self-starter, comfortable working independently
  • Great time management skills, ability to multitask
  • Availability on some evenings and weekends, as necessary – allowing for flexibility of timing for posting/managing social media content
  • Strong interest in representing the Division of Student Life to help document the UW student experience

Time commitment: 2 – 3 hours/week

Start date: Summer or fall quarter 2015 (with some training to begin spring quarter 2015)
