Be a Summer “Mathletes” Tutor

The Volunteer Summer Mathletes Tutor is part of the youth services team providing educational services for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) youth. This position is primarily responsible for teaching students math skills, both independently and in conjunction with other SIHB employees. This position is temporary, lasting from June 29th until August 27th, 2015.

Primary Duties:

  1. Attend weekly “Mathletes” sessions, either on Tuesdays or Thursdays throughout July and August. Sessions will last two hours.
  2. Arrive 10 minutes early to each session and supervise some children after the session is over, until they are picked up by guardians.
  3. All Mathletes tutors, if available, may be called to substitute for other teachers outside of their normal sessions and grade levels.
  4. Carry out Morningside methods to teach children appropriate math skills based on their individual needs. Each instructor will teach a group of 3-6 children.
  5. Utilize Morningside materials and SIHB materials to facilitate learning and creatively plan games and activities for children.
  6. Supervise children during breaks and snack time.
  7. Consult and coordinate with coworkers from the youth services team.
  8. Youth Services Team will create and follow a consistent plan to handle behavioral issues that arise.
  9. Other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualification:

  1. Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  2. Proficient in basic math skills.
  3. Background check clearance required.
  4. No misuse of alcohol or other substance
