Side bar widgets
Widgets are utilized when displaying small portions of information across multiple pages. They are visually shown as blocks located on the right sidebar. Going to Appearance > Widgets (Figure 1a), will lead to a number of widget types that can be added (Figure 1b). The following examples were taken from the CCRI site.

Figure 1a. The widgets page can be accessed under Appearance > Widgets.

Figure 1b. There are a number of widget types that can be added into site pages, typically viewed as a block of information located on the right sidebar.
I. Update information in widget blocks
For the CCRI site, only Contact widget blocks were added as seen in Figure 2a. Information in the widget blocks can be updated in the Widgets page by selecting the corresponding widget’s dropdown in the area marked Sidebar, as shown in Figure 2b.

Figure 2a. CCRI contact info is shown in the “Contact Us” tan block located in the right column sidebar.

Figure 2b. Information in widget blocks can be updated by clicking the Contact widget dropdown under “Sidebar” in the Widgets page.
II. Hiding widgets
There are two purposes and ways to hide widgets. The first is when hiding selected widgets on certain pages. To do so, go to the widget dropdown and click “visibility” then choose to “Hide” the widget in a certain location. Under location select “Page”, and then choose the name of the page. For the CCRI site, we chose to hide the widget when the user lands on the “Front page” (aka homepage). A walk-through of this process can be seen in Figure 3a.

Figure 3a. A step-by-step process to hide specific widgets on designated pages is presented above. The example shows how to hide a widget on just the front/home page.
Another instance is to completely hide all widgets on a page. For the CCRI site, we used this option just on the homepage, to remove the right sidebar and expand the page width.
For this option, check the box next to the “No Sidebar” option under Page Attributes when editing a page, highlighted in Figure 3b.
