Testing Center


*The U.W. Academic Testing Center is currently closed and working remotely until further notice. We are working on offering various exams remotely also. Please check the page of the test that you need for details on remote options. We will update our pages when we have a return date, pending UW and public health approval. Please contact for any questions.*


  • As of September 2020, the FRENCH, GERMAN, ITALIAN, and SPANISH Placement exam is available as a remote test through the Testing Center registration. Information Here
  • As of June 2020, UW Testing Center may conduct remote proficiency testing on behalf of the Slavic Department (Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Romanian). Please email UW Testing Center. For Slavic Language placement testing, please contact the Slavic Department.
  • As of March 2020, the Math Department expects students wanting to enroll in MATH 111, MATH 120 or MATH 124 to take the Guided Self-Placement assessment. If you have further questions regarding Math courses, please contact the Math Department directly.


This website is for the University of Washington office that conducts academic placement testing and other various academic exams.

The UW Academic Testing Center is located at 1410 NE Campus Parkway Seattle, WA., 440 Schmitz Hall.


If you have cold- or flu-like symptoms, please stay home and contact us via email or phone to reschedule.


Our testing center offers a wide variety of tests, including:

  • Undergraduate placement / proficiency
  • College entrance
  • Certification
  • Make-up/course exams

Our facilities include two group testing rooms with individual carrels and video and audio systems. Disability accommodations are available and proctoring services are provided for other educational institutions or agencies.

U.W. Testing Services can accommodate proctoring for outside school exams and non-U.W. students.

U.W. instructors may request that U.W. Testing Center administer course exams by completing and submitting a Faculty Exam Form (open with Adobe).

PLEASE NOTE: If you are sick, please consult the University of Washington’s guidelines and consider whether or not it is safe to test in an environment with other students. Contact us to re-schedule your test if you are unable to test as scheduled.

Please refrain from wearing fragrances for exams in the Testing Center in consideration of others who may have medical sensitivities.
