future alumni

From grad to GOLD

Once you enter the UW, you’re a Husky for life. All those walking our campuses may be students now but they’re also future alumni, soon-to-be members of the UW alumni community. After graduation, they join another special group — GOLD (Graduates of the Last Decade) alumni.

Moving from grad to GOLD is one of life’s biggest shifts, and UWAA programs are there to help the next generation of Huskies make the transition from student to proud alumni.

Senior Workshops will take place May 16–18.

Be Informed. On May 16–18, the UWAA hosted a series of events for graduating seniors. Senior Workshops covered a diverse array of topics to help prepare students for life after college — from post-college logistics to finding the career path that is right for you. The week began with a workshop led by BECU, which provided guidance on creating a personal budget and managing health and retirement benefits. The next session combined a presentation with mock interviews to help students market themselves, avoid those awkward pauses during interviews and get the attention of employers. The last session was an alumni “Ask Me Anything.” Alumni representing a variety of backgrounds and career paths offered the scoop on what post-college life is really like.

During the week, there was also a LinkedIn Photo Booth. Having a photo increases your profile views by 14x. Students received a free professional headshot, and experts were on hand to review profiles to make sure grads are making the right first impression. At a LinkedIn Mixer, future grads had the opportunity to connect with young alumni in a fun, informal setting.

On May 18, the UWAA offered students complimentary Photos at the W. 2017 grads brought friends and posed at the iconic W at the entryway to campus. What better way to capture the moment than photo at the this iconic UW landmark?

Throwing dubs up at last year’s Grad Toast.

Be happy. Graduating is a huge accomplishment — the culmination of years of hard work and the beginning of an exciting new life. In celebration, the UWAA invites 2017 grads to a Grad Toast in the Sylvan Grove on June 8. At the start of their first year, students are invited to the Sylvan Grove to touch the historic columns and celebrate the Husky tradition they are joining. On June 8, the UWAA brings the tradition full circle with a toast at the columns. We’ll raise a glass to the Class of 2017 and welcome them into the UW alumni community. Stay tuned for details, registration opens May 4.
