Recorded Property Documents for the University of Washington

(Approved by the Senior Vice President for Planning and Management by authority of Administrative Order No. 7)

1.  Policy

All University of Washington recorded property documents (UW Recorded Documents) must be reviewed by or under the direction of the UW Real Estate Office.

UW Recorded Documents include:

  • All documents that are to be recorded in connection with property owned by the University; and

  • All documents that are to be recorded in connection with property not owned by the University, but to be signed by the University.

Recorded documents include a wide range of document types; some common examples are deeds, easements, covenants, and indemnities. Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) Financing Statements may also be recorded in the real property records. Recorded documents are included on the title of the property described in the document. For this reason, it is important to make sure that the terms of any recorded document are acceptable, and that the property description is correct and appropriately specific.
