State IT Relations
Given the legal reality that the UW is an agency of the state of Washington, there is a crucial interplay and relationship between the state and the university in many arenas. This is especially true of technology, where UW technology acquisitions, plans, and projects are subject to state regulations and to specific oversight and explicit acquisitions approvals by various parts of state government.
As a complement to, and working in close coordination with, University Government Relations groups, we sustain close relationships with appropriate state agency and legislative contacts to facilitate state/UW relationships that relate to technology.
State IT Relations serves as a liaison between UW Technology and state government, including the regulatory and compliance requirements from the state's Department of Information Services and the Information Services Board (which has ultimate authority over all UW technology acquisitions). We also serve or serve to solicit appropriate members from the UW community on various legislative task forces. And we often help coordinate responses to state, legislative, and related entities' requests for participation or for information, including helping marshal input to legislative deliberations that involve technology issues.
