Like other scholarly publishers, the University of Washington Press distinguishes between examination and desk copies. Examination and desk copies are provided to qualified instructors of appropriate courses at the discretion of the Press.

Examination Copy Policy

If you wish to consider one of our paperback books for course use, please submit your request on your college or university letterhead, and enclose $5.00 per book for shipping and handling (checks payable to HFS). Please include all relevant course information, including course title, expected enrollment, and when the course will be taught. Please note that we must limit examination copies to 3 per professor per academic year.

Please mail examination copy requests to:

A desk copy is a book that has already been adopted for course use. If you have adopted one of our books for use in a course, and placed an order of 10 copies or more through your bookstore, please submit your request for a complimentary desk copy on college or university letterhead. Please include all relevant course information, including course title, expected enrollment, when the course will be taught, and whether the book is a required text.
