Services

Technology Management combines UW-IT customer service, operations and engineering teams.

This division is responsible for:

  • Academic & Collaborative Applications. Advancing teaching, learning, and research by investigating computing trends, identifying user needs, and innovating technology solutions. This unit implements and integrates the University’s online tools, open source and vendor solutions, and cloud services. This unit’s applications include online course delivery tools, research technologies, email and calendaring solutions, Web publishing, collaboration tools, and the University portal.
  • Accessible Technology. Helping the University provide world-class accessibility to students, staff, faculty and clinicians who need assistive technology in their university life. This unit collaborates with other university units to assure the availability of assistive technology, and consult on the development of accessible Web sites and other software. Additionally, this unit conducts regional, national and international projects to promote the use of accessible technology in increasing the success of individuals with disabilities in college and careers.
  • Application Infrastructure Engineering. Developing, integrating, and maintaining tools, applications, and services that support and manage UW Information Technology systems, networks, and facilities.
  • Computing Infrastructure Services. Providing reliable computing infrastructure for a wide range of academic and administrative uses.  Responsibilities include system administration, software engineering, and operational support for academic and administrative systems, student computing centers, videoconference facilities, and other technology-based learning spaces. In addition, this unit provides client support and technology workshops, and collaborates with campus partners supporting initiatives and outreach that address teaching and learning.
  • Customer Services & Operations. Providinginformation technology consulting and help desk support for voice and data, managed desktops, computer repair, and customer relationship management to departments, faculty, staff and students.  This unit also provides 7x24x365 monitoring, reporting and troubleshooting for a wide variety of systems, applications, facility and security related events.
  • Large Scale Storage and Systems. Designing, implementing, and operating enterprise-level storage solutions for data backup and data archiving. In addition, this unit oversees UW-IT's services for research computing, managed servers, and managed workstations.
  • Program Management Office. Overseeing UW Information Technology’s project portfolio, ensuring that the overall collection of projects is aligned with the University’s mission and strategic goals, and provides expert project management support for high-priority projects.
  • Service Management & Planning. Ensuring alignment of services provided by UW Information Technology with current and future needs of the University.  This includes planning for new services, enhancements to existing services, and efforts to improve the overall cost-effectiveness and quality of services.
  • Technology Business Continuity. Overseeing emergency preparedness, disaster response, and business continuity planning efforts for UW Information Technology, as well as providing expertise and consulting to university departments on emergency notification systems and technology business continuity.
