User Experience Design Student Assistant

Position description:

If you are an undergraduate or graduate student who wants real-world experience designing and developing software that has tremendous impact on the students, staff and faculty of the UW, we have a great opportunity for you.

The User Experience (UX) Team within the Academic Experience Design & Delivery (AXDD) unit of UW-IT is looking for a motivated, curious student to work with professional designers on all aspects of software design. This is a chance to refine skills critical for success in the Design field and gain professional project experience on production-ready, high-profile projects, such as Scout, MyUW, GradePage, and NotifyUW.

You will be joining a highly collaborative development team, surrounded by expertise in the design and development of mobile and web applications. Past UX Team Student Assistants have graduated to positions with Deloitte Digital, Google, Microsoft, VM Ware, and UW-IT.

What we are looking for:

Candidates must be able to communicate an understanding of User-Centered Design processes and have demonstrated problem solving abilities. Additionally, candidates must work well as a member of a team and independently, communicate effectively, exercise good judgment and meet deadlines.
Desirable qualities:

  • Demonstrated experience or coursework in Design (any Design discipline, but web application and/or web site design is a plus).
  • Interest in technology, design and development processes and tools, collaboration and learning, or related fields.
  • Some level of experience with conducting user research.
  • Ability to write standards-compliant HTML/CSS

We encourage undergraduate or graduate students to apply. We are looking for applicants who are willing to work at least one year and can commit to work at least 10 hours per week.

Job details:

Hours: 10-19.5 hrs/week
Location: University District Building (UDB), 1107 NE 45th St.
Start Dates: Summer or Fall 2019
