Technology Recharge Fee

The Technology Recharge Fee (TRF) was established in 2010 to provide a sustainable long-term funding model for critical information technology services at the UW. The fee is a per capita rate paid by all UW academic and administrative units to supplement existing central funds, which pay for the basic services. See TRF archive and history.

Technology Fee Review and Rate Setting Process

The IT Service Investment Board is charged by the Provost and Executive Vice President, and the Executive Vice President for Finance & Administration (EVPFA) with conducting an annual review of the TRF level and methodology. The Provost and the EVPFA approved the Board’s recommendation for a slight increase in TRF rates for FY 2019. The increase is necessary to help address the rising cost of IT operations. Under the Board’s recommendation, the methodology and basic bundle of services covered by the TRF will not change. The Board’s recommendation reflects advice from the Technology Recharge Fee Advisory Committee, which provides in-depth analysis and counsel. The committee is comprised of administrators representing academic and administrative units, as well as UW Medical Centers.
