Subject: FY 2017 Technology Recharge Fee
I am writing to update you on the FY 2017 rates for the Technology Recharge Fee (TRF), which provides support for essential information technology services delivered by UW Information Technology (UW-IT). Under a recommendation by the University’s IT Service Investment Board, and approved by the Interim Provost, the rates will be increased by 1.1 percent for all academic and administrative units, and 0.8 percent for the Medical Centers. The Board, comprised of representatives from academic and administrative units, is charged by the Provost with conducting an annual review and evaluation of the TRF.
The FY 2017 TRF rates, effective July 1, 2016, will be:
- $56.13 per month per capita for all academic and administrative units (This represents a 1.1 percent increase over the current rate of $55.51)
- $51.34 per month per capita for the Medical Centers (This represents a 0.8 percent increase over the current rate of $50.91)
The IT Service Investment Board believes this increase is necessary to help address the rising costs of delivering IT services to the University community. The methodology and basic bundle of services covered by the TRF will not change. In arriving at its recommendations, the Board followed advice from the Technology Recharge Fee Advisory Committee, which is charged with providing in-depth analysis and consultation in support of the annual TRF review.
The TRF covers a basic bundle of IT services identified as essential by a group of representatives from across the UW community, and also covers the Microsoft campus site licensing agreement. The Board believes its recommendations address the need to offset rising IT expenses, while minimizing impacts on units. UW-IT strives to operate as cost-effectively as possible, and to deliver services that enhance the productivity and effectiveness of students, faculty and staff.
